Physics

Course Leader:Mr Matthew Briscoe
BSc

Physics will provide a stimulating and rewarding experience. An application driven approach makes physics interesting for all students. It is a highly dynamic course, underlining the fundamental laws of the known universe.

Through analytical and logical deduction, students study the broad scale of the subject, from the structure of the atom to the wonders of the visible universe and support their knowledge through experimental work. Physics is an ideal subject for those students who ask the question ‘why?’ Physics combines well with mathematics as well as the other sciences and allows students to develop skills which will enable them to become highly sought after in the careers market. It is a subject that opens doors in to a number of different career paths which is why it is such a highly regarded A Level to have.

The A Level physics course has been designed to enable students to gain an understanding of many of the different areas of physics used today.  Throughout the A Level course, students will learn about:

  1. Measurements and their errors
  2. Particles and radiation
  3. Waves
  4. Mechanics & Materials
  5. Electricity
  6. Further Mechanics
  7. Thermal Physics
  8. Fields & their consequences
  9. Nuclear physics
  10. Astrophysics
