The BTEC Level 3 Applied Science course consists of four units taught over two academic years (with the option of two additional units). Each unit aims to develop various skills based on different branches of science. Students will be taught the theory underpinning Biology, Chemistry and Physics topics which they will then be examined on in the summer of Year 13. Pupils will also get to grips with some key laboratory techniques and they will be required to complete an assessed practical, allowing them to gain an understanding of how science is applied in real life. Students will cover a unit which explores the human body as well as a Chemical techniques unit in which pupils will get to hone their skills using advanced pieces of apparatus. This course offers a good balance of exam and coursework elements.
